What is Trans Justice?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Justice for Transgendered individuals, as well as the Transgendered community. It’s about uniting the community in one voice to tell others that we will NOT take the crap they dish out to us anymore. It’s about seeing that we get the same rights as the rest of the human race get access to. It’s about time we get our issues to the forefront of society to give our issues and needs the attention they deserve.

Don’t think so? Let me ask you something: when was the last time you went to the doctor for anything, such as a cold, viral infection, or even a sprained ankle? Did your insurance refuse to pay because they classified it as “SRS Related”? No? Then you have rights that any Trans-identified person who has had medical treatment that was trans-related do not. A person who has had any kind of treatment, including therapy and hormones, cannot go to a doctor for an un-related issue and expect insurance to pay for it. Why? Heck if I know, but once a person goes through treatment for “gender identity disorder”, everything else is fair game for the insurance companies to deny any other claim, basing it on it being “SRS related”.

Here’s another right that most people take for granted: Equal Employment Opportunities. Most people don’t have certain issues where they can be discriminated against, because it is law that people cannot be discriminated against for the following reasons:

1. Sex
2. Race
3. Religion
4. Color
5. National Origin
6. Age
7. Disability, and thanks to ENDA,
8. Sexual Orientation

What happened to gender identity? What happened to fairness for ALL humans, whether we agree with them or not??

Recently, there was a sweet victory for Gay and Lesbian Americans, but not for Trans-Identified Americans. (Or anyone else on that huge spectrum!) ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, went to Congress on Thursday and was passed, but without the gender identity language. So, even our gay brothers and sisters get protections…but what about the Transgender community? However, I find it interesting that most of our Gay and Lesbian brothers and sisters say that they are “ok” with this. WHY?

This is the kind of environment that we are living in. Where people are only concerned for issues that concern them, and stop caring for the plight of others. It’s like they said to us, “You go and stall them, while we get away. Then, we may come back for you sometime in the next few years. Until then, try doing the best you can to keep your head up and don’t get discouraged now. We’ll be back!”

While I can say more about this, and I will in later posts, the point I want to make is that the Time for Transgender Justice is NOW! And whether you like it or not, this Tranny Boi has a voice, and it will sound out strong, loud and proud!
